Papiss Cisse has insisted that he feels “very happy” at Newcastle despite struggling to start for the side this season. Though the striker scored Newcastle’s winning goal on Sunday, reports from Monday suggested that he feels frustration at not being picked regularly to start, that he wants to play more centrally, and that Liverpool and Tottenham are showing an interest in him.
However, despite the reports, Cisse has expressed his happiness at being at the club and has praised boss Alan Pardew, including his support and attempts to raise morale.
He said to The Journal: “I am very happy at Newcastle. I am really happy to be here – nobody knows what the future brings but I am happy to be here. The manager is extraordinary and it is incredible to work with the manager every day – every day in training and in matches we learn something new. The moments that I have lived with him here are the moments you dream about before playing professionally. Even if everything isn’t going well he is there giving you support, telling you you are going to score. He is always trying to boost morale.”
Boss Alan Pardew praised the striker after the match, calling him “an important player”, saying: “he doesn’t look short of confidence and he’s smashing goals in from everywhere.”
Cisse joined Newcastle this January. He signed a contract to stay at the club for five and a half years, worth around £8 million. He made 14 appearances for Newcastle last season.
